Host Company: ExactTarget
Current Company: Multiply Technology
Doug Booth graduated from Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management with a degree in Management Information Systems in 2013 and accepted an Orr Fellowship position at ExactTarget (now Salesforce). Doug’s story is unique because in the aftermath of Salesforce’s acquisition of ExactTarget, he decided to start his own business. As a member of Salesforce’s IT team, Doug and a colleague saw an opportunity to reduce the waste of the computers that were being disposed of: remove confidential information from the hard drives and connect them with nonprofit organizations in a secure and sustainable way.
Thus, Multiply Technology was born. Doug holds that having support and mentorship from Mike Fitzgerald and Mark Hill, both Orr Fellowship members, was “very helpful” as he started off on his own, and that the Fellowship name recognition in the Indianapolis community allowed him to build a strong network of relationships at Multiply. He maintains that Orr Fellowship gave him “an obvious peer and mentor network advantage,” and that some of the “best professional friends that [he] has are associated with the Fellowship in some way.”
Today, Multiply connects enterprise level companies and their out of warranty computers with organizations doing good around the world such as Techpoint Foundation for Youth and Doug holds the position of CEO, Champion of Encouraging Others. For Doug, success is “to laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends. Success is to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others and to leave the world a better place, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life breathed easier because you lived.”
