“Back in 2014 as an Orr Fellow, I was inspired by a consulting program at my alma mater and thought it could be an opportunity at Orr Fellowship: Why not form small teams of Fellows with various skill sets to tackle a local small nonprofit’s challenge? It would be a chance to learn from working on a real world business problem while providing a community service.”    -Eric Murphy

Orr Fellowship Nonprofit Consulting (NPC) is an exciting [free] part of our civic engagement initiatives and supports two key pillars of Orr Fellowship: Professional Development and Community Service.

Orr Fellowship’s Nonprofit Consulting teams are collaborative and facilitative, listening to learn all they can about each organization’s challenges and opportunities. Fellows aim for objectivity and think conceptually to deliver simple solutions that are within the scope of what small organizations may actually be able to execute. These clients often benefit from outside perspectives and brainstorming. Orr Fellows offer insight, energy, and creativity to examine a challenge from new angles.

What Clients Say about their NPC Experience

"Our team researched and analyzed Ascent 121’s donor journey and marketing strategies to start meaningful conversations about how the organization may more effectively attract people like us who were new to their brand. The NPC project reminded me of how important it is to invite a fresh set of eyes to see a long-standing problem, for our creative perspective both validated some of Ascent 121’s ideas and gave them new initiatives to implement this season"

"NPC embodies the Orr Fellowship commitment to community. I was able to work with my peers and a local nonprofit, Families First. I work as a Content Marketing Specialist at OneCause, a company with a fundraising software suite for nonprofits, so I was excited to bring what I knew from our sector to a nonprofit with such a great mission in Indy. I also took knowledge gained from this project back to my work at OneCause. It was a great experience I'll always remember!"

Blair C.

"For me, the CARE Plus NPC project was an opportunity to learn about strategic collaboration, which we put into practice by synthesizing some creative applications of the business world. It was so gratifying to address the needs of the organization through our own professional specialties—both our group of Orr Fellows and the CARE Plus staff benefited from the interaction between the business and nonprofit arenas."

Amelia Y.

"During the project I found it personally gratifying to volunteer my growing business acumen to a worthwhile organization. I am grateful to Orr and my NPC team for enabling an experience that both gives back to the Indianapolis community and grows our creative problem-solving skills in such a unique way."
