Gather outstanding college-level millennial talent, seasoned Indy business professionals, the enthusiasm of over 80 current Orr Fellows, and a venue overlooking the striking night sky of Indianapolis and you have the recipe for a night of conversation and all of the feels— or, as we call it, Reception on the Circle 2015.
This year, the prospective class of 2016 gathered at Indianapolis Artsgarden to complete the second to last stage of recruitment for the Orr Fellowship. Eats, drinks, great speakers, and energized candidates made for an outstanding night.
“Recruiting the next class for the fellowship is the most important job we have as fellows. We want to continue nourishing the Indianapolis business community with talented young professionals. The energy at ROTC was unreal—our next class of fellows is ready to impact Indy in a big way,” said Joe Rust, Orr Fellowship Chief of Staff.
Speakers Tiffany Sauder, President of Element Three, Josh Owens, Orr Fellow class of 2007 and current Butler University professor, along with Orr Fellowship Chairman, Scott Brenton, addressed candidates providing realistic advice and encouragement related to embracing their remaining time in college and looking forward to gaining professional experience.
Sauder thought back to the first days of Element Three sharing some of her favorite lessons along with what it was like hosting Element Three’s first Orr Fellow. She reminded current fellows and candidates, “Why worry about tomorrow when you have today? Be ready to want today.”
Owens thought back to the impact that the Orr Fellowship has had on both his career and friendships. After his time in the fellowship, Owens spent time away from Indy, but is back and here to stay, which we understand…what’s not to love?
Indy is a great place to be—growing, changing, and adapting to become an even better city day after day. Brenton elaborated on this sentiment filling candidates with that all too familiar itch of wanting to be a part of the Orr Fellowship, wanting to impact Indianapolis, and wanting to do it with fantastic colleagues and mentors by your side.
After ROTC, a handful of candidates are invited to Finalist Day, the culmination of recruitment, to interview with Orr Fellowship host companies in hopes of being placed. The torch was officially lit throughout ROTC, and current fellows cannot wait to officially hand it off to the next group of thriving millennials come November 13.
